Why You Won’t See Me Posting Much on Social Media
It might seem a little strange for someone who spends most of their working hours creating videos, editing content, and designing eye-catching short-form media to not be active on their own Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook. After all, social media is where so much of the magic happens these days—it’s where businesses showcase their work, build connections, and market themselves. But if you’ve searched for my accounts, you might have noticed something: they’re pretty quiet.
My Day Job Is Your Social Media
I’ve built my career (and my business, Madbox Creative) on designing, editing, and producing content that helps my clients shine online. Whether it’s slick short-form videos, podcast content repurposed for social, or event highlights, I pour my creativity and energy into making sure their feeds stand out. Social media is a massive part of what I do, and I genuinely love helping people create content that connects with their audiences.
But after spending all day producing for others, when I log off, the last thing I want to do is worry about curating my own feed.
What I Choose to Do Instead
When I step away from work, I want to spend that precious downtime with the people (and the dog!) I care about most. My evenings and weekends are for catching up with friends, spending time with family, and heading out for walks with Yuki, my four-legged sidekick. I love what I do—but I also love creating a little distance from it when I can.
The idea of “being online 24/7” is often celebrated, especially in creative industries. But for me, finding a balance is what keeps me productive and motivated when it is time to get back to work. Switching off means I get to recharge properly, so I can show up for my clients with fresh energy and ideas.
The Power of Word-of-Mouth
I’m incredibly lucky that my business has been built—and continues to grow—through word-of-mouth recommendations. Clients who trust me to deliver often pass my name on to others, and that network of referrals has become the backbone of Madbox Creative. It’s a huge compliment to know that someone enjoyed working with me enough to recommend me to a friend, a colleague, or a collaborator.
Sure, there are the occasional quiet months (that’s part of freelance life), but overall, I don’t feel the need to market myself too aggressively on social media. I’d rather spend that time doing great work, building real relationships with my clients, and letting the results speak for themselves.
Creativity Doesn’t Need Constant Sharing
Sometimes, we can get so caught up in the pressure to “post, post, post” that we forget to enjoy the work itself. For me, creativity isn’t about proving that I’m busy or productive all the time—it’s about delivering work that matters to my clients. The best opportunities I’ve had have come through trust, collaboration, and good old-fashioned word-of-mouth, not from obsessing over algorithms.
So while my Instagram might not be full of daily updates or perfectly polished reels, I promise you I’m busy creating content where it really matters: for the people who hire me.
Finding Balance
If you’re a freelancer, creative, or small business owner, you’ll know how hard it can be to find a balance between doing the work and marketing yourself. For me, choosing to step back from social media isn’t about ignoring its value—it’s about recognising where my energy is best spent.
In my case, it’s on building relationships, delivering results for my clients, and making time for the people (and pup) who make life outside of work so rewarding.
So if you don’t see me on your feed much, don’t worry—I’m probably just out walking Yuki, catching up with friends, or working hard behind the scenes on someone else’s social media magic.
